A M e s s a g e f r o m t h e D e a n Dear alumni and friends, The beginning of a new academic year is an excellent time to reflect on the progress we have made as a school and to share news about the exciting opportunities ahead. For starters, the school's MBA and undergraduate programs have again been ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News and World Report and Bloomberg Businessweek (see page 2). We've worked hard to enhance the quality of our academic programs and global reputation by focusing our resources on the recruitment of high-caliber students and top faculty. It is most gratifying to see our efforts reflected in these rankings. We continue to place strategic emphasis on three themes within the School of Management: leadership, entrepreneurship and health care management, and many of our partnerships—within UB and beyond—are in these areas. For example, you can read on page 2 about the inaugural leadership conference that our Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness held in May. And in health care, we are now collaborating with the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to offer an accelerated MBA for medical residents and fellows (see page 3). A story on page 6 highlights the many ways we are cultivating entrepreneurs, including our partnership with UB's Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Academy, the Entrepreneurship Lab, the Elevator Pitch event and the Henry A. Panasci Jr. Technology Entrepreneurship Competition, which has become the region's premier student entrepreneurship event. Our commitment to undergraduate education is evidenced by the construction of a new space for undergraduate students to enhance their learning experience as business majors (see page 4). You'll also see on pages 3 and 4 how several of these projects and programs are funded by donors. We are truly grateful for their generous support. Woven throughout the rest of this issue, you'll find plenty of stories about the success of our students, alumni and faculty and their impact on the community. As you read of the progress we are making and the promise of things to come, I am confident that you will join in our enthusiasm for the future that is unfolding before us. Thank you for all you do to support the school. Sincerely, Arjang A.
