In a new book, Becoming a Leader of Character: Six Habits That Make or Break a Leader at Work and at Home, Anderson and his father, Gen. James Anderson, use personal ex- amples — from leading at West Point, in combat and in business — to lay out a plan to strengthen six character habits. The book is endorsed by Duke and Olympic basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, New York Times best-selling author Ken Blanchard and multiple past and present West Point generals. "Leadership failures in politics, busi- ness and our homes usually happen because something in the leader's character prevents that person from choosing to do the right thing," says Anderson. "This book fills a hole in leadership literature by sharing exercises that grow character through consistent training, just like any other workout." Anderson graduated from West Point and served as a field artillery forward observer during Operation Desert Storm, earning a Bronze Star. He then joined a Fortune 50 company and spent 20 years in various sales and leadership positions. He resides in Tyler, Texas. x Alumni Spotlight: Dave Anderson, EMBA '01 Severson Stehlar Asquith Smith Daddario Lyons Moynihan Walker Amico Maugans Lubecki Raines Hays Berger 32 Buffalo Business Spring 2017
